I have seen the fnords

23.

I know the story has been BoingBoinged, but I just have to blog it too.

Robert Anton Wilson, author of The Illuminatus! Trilogy among dozens of other works, is dying in poverty. While this may be a good time to discuss the apalling state of health care in the U.S.A., that won't help him.

BoingBoing stories are here and here.

All Hail Eris! All Hail Discordia!

From Common Ground magazine, July 1999

Question: What is your most serious concern about the planet?

Robert Anton Wilson: The Stupidity Problem. As J.R. "Bob" Dobbs has said, "You know how dumb the average guy is, right? Well, mathematically, by definition, half of them are even dumber than that."

My favorite philosopher, George Carlin, points out that if you doubt that, take along a pad every time you go out and make a note whenever you see or hear something incredibly stupid. At the end of an average day, you'll have at least 40 notes. And that's even if you don't go into a church or political meeting.

UPDATE -- Monday, October 9, 2006

Wow, thanks to generous blog readers all over the world, Mr. Wilson can stay at his home. Read the complete update at BoingBoing, including a note from RAW himself. It made me cry.
